Note that Free TAFE funding is not available for non-Auslan streams of the Diploma and Advanced Diploma of Interpreting. You may be able to get Skills First funding to cover non-Auslan streams.
Do you want to advance your career as an interpreter? This course is designed for people who are already working as an interpreter, and who want to further their skills.
This training will teach you how to interpret complex conversations with multiple parties. You will also learn the skills to interpret in situations where the content may not be easily predicted or planned for.
Topics covered in this course include:
- how to negotiate translating and interpreting assignments
- interpreting in complex settings
- sight translation
- using complex subject area terminology in interpreting.
You can also choose electives in areas that interest you, for example:
- interpreting as part of a team
- building glossaries for translating and interpreting assignments
- providing mentoring support to colleagues.
On completion of this training you will be qualified to work as an interpreter in community, business and diplomatic domains. These include:
- health and welfare
- policing and courts
- formal immigration hearings
- education
- the media
- commerce
- government and international relations
- professional sectors such as the law, technology and science.
