Do you want to communicate fluently with Deaf and hard of hearing people? In this course you will learn to communicate confidently in Auslan in a range of settings including personal, public, social, employment and educational.
This training will give you the skills to converse proficiently in Auslan. You will also learn about:
- the differences between Auslan and English
- Deaf culture, and how to communicate according to Deaf protocol
- the structure of Auslan signs and sentences
- the development of educational and social conditions for Australian Deaf communities.
You can also choose electives in areas that interest you. Note that the availability of electives may vary depending on your selected training provider.
There is demand for Auslan skills across a range of sectors. This training will qualify you to work in fields such as:
- disability support
- communication guiding
- school integration aid
- customer service at Deaf organisations.
On completion of this course you may choose to undertake further training such as a Diploma of Interpreting (LOTE - English).
This qualification is recognised nationally under the Australian Qualifications Framework (AQF).
