About this course

Do you want to build your Auslan skills and improve your ability to communicate with Deaf and hard of hearing people?

This training will give you the skills to converse in Auslan in personal and professional settings. It will also prepare you for more advanced Auslan courses.

You will learn to:

  • understand the main points when clear, standard language is used
  • understand topics that are regularly encountered in work, school and leisure
  • deal with most situations likely to arise where the sign language is used
  • produce simple text on topics, which are familiar, or of personal interest
  • describe experiences and events, dreams, hopes and ambitions
  • give simple reasons and explanations for opinions and plans.

There is demand for Auslan skills across a range of sectors. This training may lead to further qualifications including a Diploma of Auslan or a Diploma of Interpreting (LOTE - English).
