About this course

Would you like to make a real difference in the lives of young people? Becoming a qualified youth worker can help you follow that passion.

This course is for those who already have some of the skills to work successfully in mental health and counselling services.

You should be:

  • a good active listener
  • able to work well in teams
  • comfortable working in different settings
  • a strong communicator
  • able to see the good in people and recognise the reasons behind certain behaviours.

This training includes a mixture of theory and practical study. You will complete a practical placement in a workplace in this course.

On completion, you could work as a:

  • youth welfare worker
  • youth support and programs officer
  • youth liaison officer
  • psychological rehabilitation worker
  • welfare coordinator
  • mental health worker.

Note that the availability of electives may vary depending on your selected training provider.

This qualification is recognised nationally under the Australian Qualifications Framework (AQF).
