Looking to make a career change or add new skills and knowledge to enhance your current work? Financial counsellors are in demand.
This course will give you the tools to provide support to those in financial distress.
Financial counsellors are not planners or advisers. However, you will need broad knowledge of the law to give the right advice.
You will study several areas of the law, including:
- consumer law
- credit law
- bankruptcy law
- industry hardship policies
- government concession frameworks
- debt enforcement practices.
Some of the people you will interact with as a financial counsellor will be dealing with:
- financial hardships
- gambling problems
- substance abuse
- mental health issues
- physical health problems.
Note that the availability of electives may vary depending on your selected training provider.
To achieve this qualification, you will need to complete 220 hours of work as detailed in the Assessment Requirements of units of competency.
Please note: This qualification is not appropriate for financial capability workers and it does not refer to therapeutic counselling.
This qualification is recognised nationally under the Australian Qualifications Framework (AQF).
