About this course

If see yourself as a legal secretary, this course will give you the skills you need. It will help you work in different places where they offer legal services. 

You will learn how to handle any problem that comes your way. You will also know how to use different sources of information and check if they are reliable or not.

The types of tasks you will do as a legal secretary are:

  • make and change legal documents, like contracts, court papers, and letters 
  • talk to clients, lawyers, and other people who are involved in cases  
  • plan and arrange appointments, meetings, court dates, and other events  
  • keep track of case files and documents  
  • help lawyers find information for their cases 
  • do other office tasks, like billing, timekeeping, and record-keeping. 

To be a good legal secretary, you need to be organised and able to manage multiple demands on your time at once. You also need to know the rules and steps of the legal system, and how to use office software programs.

This qualification is recognised nationally under the Australian Qualifications Framework (AQF).
