About this course
If you’re working in the building trade, this course will qualify you to supervise others and enable you to start your own business. It will also help prepare you to become a registered builder.
The course will cover the techniques and principles of building and construction. It will also provide essential knowledge of building regulations in Victoria.
There are two streams to choose from, based on the electives you study:
Certificate IV in Building and Construction (Building)
This stream is for people who would like to become a builder in low rise residential and commercial construction.
Certificate IV in Building and Construction (Site Management)
This stream is for people who would like to become a site manager or project manager, and will teach you how to manage a construction site.
Talk to your training provider before selecting your electives. Note that the availability of electives may vary between providers.
This qualification will allow you to work for 'low rise' building projects in small to medium-sized businesses. Possible roles include:
- builder
- construction supervisor
- site manager
- site supervisor
- leading hand.
This course is available as an Australian apprenticeship pathway.
This qualification is recognised nationally under the Australian Qualifications Framework (AQF).
Licensing and regulatory information
The course includes the unit ‘CONISS012 Prepare to work safely in the construction industry’. You'll need to complete this before you can enter a construction work site.
