About this course

Would you like to be a vital team member of the medical profession? Then this course might be for you.

The training consists of 10 core unit and 4 electives. It will teach you how to: 

  • clean and disinfect re-usable medical devices and equipment 
  • care for surgical instruments
  • work with infection control policies and procedures 
  • work with sterile stock and equipment
  • develop effective working habits and relationships.

Note that the availability of electives may vary depending on your selected training provider.

This nationally recognised qualification may lead to employment in one of these occupations:

  • instrument technician
  • sterilisation technician 
  • sterilisation assistant.

On completion of the course, career pathways include: 

  • Certificate IV in Allied Health Assistance (Physiotherapy/Occupational Therapy)
  • Diploma of Nursing.

This qualification is recognised nationally under the Australian Qualifications Framework (AQF).
