About this course
Pork production is a major Australian industry and qualified staff are in high demand. If you’re looking for a rewarding career in the agriculture sector or looking for a change in career direction, this course could be for you.
The training will teach you all the basics of the pork industry. You’ll learn how to meet industry animal welfare standards as well as workplace health and safety. The types of work environments may include indoor and outdoor pork production settings.
You will learn how to coordinate processes and tasks, work to schedules, operate equipment, and solve problems.
You can also choose from a wide range of elective subjects in areas of pork production that interest you, for example:
- feedlot operations and feeding plans
- livestock handling
- mating, pregnancy and insemination
- operating machinery, vehicles and equipment
- biosecurity
- pest management.
Completing this course will qualify you for roles including piggery attendant and stockperson.
Commonwealth and/or state/territory health and safety, animal welfare, environmental protection and biosecurity legislation, regulations and codes of practice apply to keeping and working with pigs. Requirements vary between jurisdictions.
This qualification is recognised nationally under the Australian Qualifications Framework (AQF).
