Skills First Traineeship

About this course

Do you love making music? This course will teach you the skills you need to start a career in the music industry.

You’ll learn how to:

play and perform music
write and compose songs
use music technology and recording equipment
understand music theory and notation
work with other musicians and bands.

This course includes hands-on training to give you real-world experience. You’ll get to:

perform in live settings
record and produce your own music
collaborate on music projects
learn from experienced musicians.

Completing this course opens doors to roles such as:

musician or performer
songwriter or composer
music technician
recording assistant.

This qualification is recognised nationally under the Australian Qualifications Framework (AQF).

Licensing and regulatory information

Some jobs in this field may involve construction work, for example, building a set for a stage. Before entering a construction site, you’ll need to complete the unit ‘CPCCWHS1001 Prepare to work safely in the construction industry’. If you complete this unit with a WorkSafe approved training provider, you will be issued with a Construction induction card (white card).

This course can be done as a traineeship. You’ll get technical knowledge through coursework and hands-on experience through paid work. On completion you will receive a nationally recognised qualification.

To enrol as a trainee, you’ll need:
1. a job in a relevant workplace in the same field as your course, and
2. an employer willing to sign a Commonwealth Government ‘Training Contract’ and support your learning at work.
