About this course
Do you want to learn the tools of the trade as a light vehicle mechanic? This automotive apprenticeship course will give you the skills and knowledge you need.
This course will cover the following core skills:
- safe working practices
- testing and repairing basic electrical circuits
- testing, charging and replacing batteries
- diagnosing and repairing light vehicle systems
- environmental and sustainability best practice
- carrying out servicing work.
You can also choose electives that interest you, for example:
- vehicle safety inspections
- working with hybrid electric vehicles
- repairing dynamic control systems
- servicing diesel fuel injection systems
- maintaining measuring equipment in workshops.
On completion of the course, you will be able to work as a light vehicle mechanic.
Note that the availability of electives may vary depending on your selected training provider.
This qualification is recognised nationally under the Australian Qualifications Framework (AQF).
If you are enrolling as part of an apprenticeship, you must already be employed in the relevant industry before starting this course.

This course must be done as an apprenticeship. You’ll get practical skills and experience in a specific trade or profession. On completion you will receive a nationally recognised qualification.
To do an apprenticeship you’ll need an employer willing to hire you as an apprentice.
