About this course
If you work as an apprentice joiner, this trade-level qualification will help you develop your skills in joinery. You’ll learn how to construct and install wooden structures such as stairs, windows and kitchens.
Some of the skills you will learn during the training include:
- reading and interpreting plans and specifications
- working with measurements and calculations
- manufacturing and assembling joinery components
- installing windows and doors
- using carpentry tools and equipment, including computer controlled machinery
- assembly processes
- sustainable work practices
- health and safety procedures.
You can also choose from several electives to study as part of the course. Note that the availability of electives may vary depending on your selected training provider.
The training will prepare you to work as a specialist joiner, for example, constructing kitchens, windows or stairs. You may find opportunities to work on residential or commercial projects.
On completing the course, you can go on to study:
- Certificate IV in Building and Construction (Building)
- Diploma of Building and Construction (Building)
- Advanced Diploma of Building and Construction (Management).
This qualification is recognised nationally under the Australian Qualifications Framework (AQF).
