Course code: UET30721

About this course

Step into the world of high-powered transport. This course provides hands on training with the electrical systems on trains. You will learn how to keep trains moving fast, safe, and efficient.

You will learn how to:

  • use hand and power tools to build and repair rail traction systems
  • install and check overhead wiring, poles, and support structures
  • work safely at heights and in outdoor environments
  • follow safety rules and use protective gear
  • inspect and maintain cables, conductors, and other rail equipment.

You will also learn how to use height access gear like harnesses and lifts, and how to work as part of a team on large infrastructure projects.

Training includes both classroom learning and hands-on practice. You will work with real tools and equipment and learn from experienced trainers. Safety is a big focus, and you’ll be taught how to manage risks on the job.

After completing the course, you can work as a rail traction lineworker. You will be qualified to help build and maintain the systems that power trains across Australia. You may also be eligible to apply for licences in dogging, rigging, and elevated work platforms.

This qualification is recognised nationally under the Australian Qualifications Framework (AQF).
