About this course

Do you enjoy cooking and food preparation? If you’d like to work as a commercial cook, this course could be for you.

Learn a wide range of cookery skills and develop a sound knowledge of kitchen operations. This course will teach you:

  • how to prepare and cook appetisers and salads, poultry, seafood, meat, desserts, breads, pastries, cakes and more
  • how to master the basics including stocks, sauces, soups, vegetables, eggs, and vegetarian and vegan dishes 
  • kitchen operations skills including food safety and hygiene
  • using social media and online platforms.

You can also choose electives in your area of interest, for example Asian cookery, cookery and catering. Note that the availability of electives may vary depending on your selected training provider.

Careers in cooking are diverse. You could work as a commercial cook in a restaurant, hotel, club, pub, coffee shop or café. You could even start your own food business.
