If you’re a young person looking for a career in construction, or you're looking for a change in career, this training could be for you. Construction workers are in demand and jobs are expected to continue growing in this sector.

This course will teach you the basics of civil construction including how to:

  • plan and organise work
  • carry out measurements and calculations
  • read and interpret plans and specifications
  • communicate in a construction workplace
  • apply risk management processes
  • use hand and power tools
  • operate small plant and equipment
  • work safely.

You can choose to specialise in one of these areas:

  • bituminous surfacing
  • bridge construction and maintenance
  • pipe laying
  • road construction and maintenance
  • road marking
  • tunnel construction
  • timber bridge construction and maintenance
  • traffic management 
  • general civil construction.

Note that the availability of electives may vary depending on your selected training provider.

On completion of this training, you may qualify for roles such as:

  • site maintenance construction worker
  • road paver
  • road builder
  • road marker
  • bridge constructor
  • tunnel constructor
  • leading hand (civil construction)
  • utilities industry worker (transmission laying)
  • timber bridge constructor.

This qualification is recognised nationally under the Australian Qualifications Framework (AQF).
