About this course

Construction plant operators are in demand in both the construction and mining industries. Jobs are expected to continue growing in these sectors.

Construction plant operators are responsible for operating heavy machinery and equipment. In this training you will learn to work with machinery and equipment in a range of civil construction settings.

In this course, you will learn how to:

  • carry out measurements and calculations
  • identify, locate and protect underground services
  • carry out manual excavation
  • carry out basic levelling
  • use hand and power tools
  • operate small plant and equipment
  • drain civil construction sites
  • apply risk management processes.

You can also choose elective subjects in areas that interest you, for example:

  • front end loader operations
  • pipe layer operations
  • haul truck operations
  • paver operations
  • tip truck operations
  • using explosive power tools
  • concrete work.

Note that the availability of electives may vary depending on your selected training provider.

On completion of this training you will be able to work in a range of roles including haul truck operator, bulldozer operator, excavator operator, earth moving plant operator and many more.

This qualification is recognised nationally under the Australian Qualifications Framework (AQF).
