About this course
If you’re a young person looking for a rewarding career as a carpenter, or you're looking for a change in career direction, this course could be for you.
This training is designed for carpentry apprentices and will teach you the basics of carpentry.
You’ll learn how to:
- use carpentry tools and equipment
- install flooring, walls, ceilings, roofs, windows, doors and stair
- install cladding, lining, panelling and moulding
- read and interpret plans, specifications and drawings
- erect and dismantle formwork and scaffolding
- carry out simple concreting
- identify construction work hazards and select risk control strategies.
You can also choose electives in areas that interest you, for example:
- constructing advanced roofs
- hand excavation
- installing dry wall passive fire-rated systems
- heritage restoration
- scaffolding.
Note that the availability of electives may vary depending on your selected training provider.
On completion of this training you will be qualified for various carpentry roles including commercial carpenter, residential carpenter and formwork carpenter. You could also work as an estimator or self-employed contractor.
