About this course

This course is for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people who want to grow their art skills and share their stories. 

You will learn traditional and modern techniques to express your culture through:

  • painting
  • sculpture
  • textiles
  • digital art.

You will gain knowledge in: 

  • creating artworks that reflect your cultural identity
  • using colour, design, and materials in meaningful ways
  • Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander art history
  • following cultural protocols and work respectfully in community settings
  • building skills in drawing, painting, ceramics, printmaking, and digital media
  • preparing and exhibiting your work professionally.

The course allows you learn via:

  • mix of theory and hands-on studio work
  • working on real projects and collaborate with others
  • support from experienced trainers and artists.

This course can lead to positions such as:

  • community arts centre assistant
  • ceramics studio assistant
  • exhibiting artist
  • cultural arts project worker.

After you complete this course, you may be interested in continuing onto a Certificate IV or other creative arts courses.

This qualification is recognised nationally under the Australian Qualifications Framework (AQF).
