About this course
Do you want to work on the water? This course teaches you how to operate a commercial vessel up to 12 metres in near coastal waters. It is an entry point into the maritime industry.
You will learn how to:
- navigate safely
- operate inboard and outboard motors
- manage emergencies
- administer first aid
- handle vessels
- service and maintain vessels
- apply seamanship skills
- follow environmental work practices.
This course will prepare you for roles such as:
- skipper on small commercial vessels for tourism, fishing or transport
- deckhand
- tender operator
- crew leader.
This qualification is recognised nationally under the Australian Qualifications Framework (AQF).
Licensing and regulatory information
When you complete this course you can apply for your Coxswain Grade 1 Near Coastal Certificate of Competency with the Australian Maritime Safety Authority (AMSA).
