Prepare for an eligibility assessment

Help & advice

To be eligible for government-subsidised training in Victoria, you have to meet the eligibility criteria.

Before you apply for subsidised training

Before you apply for a subsidised course, contact the training provider to:

  • Check if there are subsidised places available in the course.
  • Find out if there are any other entry requirements for the course.

Use the Eligibility Checker on this website to find out whether you might be eligible for government-subsidised training.

Training provider assessment

When you apply for a subsidised course, the training provider will check your eligibility for subsidised training.

To do this, they'll ask you for original documents or certified photocopies to prove your citizenship, and for documents related to your education history (hardcopies or online).

They will be able to confirm whether you are eligible after assessing your documents.

Evidence of citizenship

Acceptable documents are one of the following:

  • Australian Birth Certificate (not a Birth Extract)
  • current Australian passport
  • current New Zealand passport
  • Australian Citizenship Certificate
  • current green Medicare card

Evidence of residency (if not a citizen)

Acceptable documents are one of the following:

  • current green Medicare card
  • formal documents issued by the Australian Department of Home Affairs confirming permanent residence

Evidence of date of birth (if needed)

If the citizenship or residency documents listed above do not include a date of birth, you'll need to provide one of the following:

  • current driver licence
  • current learner permit
  • proof of Age card
  • keypass ID card

Education history

You'll also need to provide information about your education history, including:

  • full title of the highest qualification you have completed, for example, Certificate III in Aged Care
  • information about any government-subsidised training you are currently doing
  • information about any government-subsidised training you have ever started (even if you didn't finish it).
