The VET Funding Review and the Government’s Response

The independent VET Funding Review was established in February 2015 to help Government develop reforms to improve the quality, stability and sustainability of the Victorian training system.

The Government then carefully considered the Review and released both the Report and the Response on 16 December 2015.

The vision includes six building blocks to reform:

  • A clear vision for what Government expects from the VET system.
  • A new, stable and sustainable funding model.
  • A commitment to restoring strong and sustainable TAFEs and Learn Local community providers.
  • A commitment to putting industry, employers and students first, in order to boost jobs and productivity.
  • A commitment to a fair and equitable funding system.
  • A commitment to placing quality and continuous improvement at the heart of VET.

The Government Response outlines three overarching objectives for the sector. These are that VET should:

  • Deliver quality training that meets current and future industry needs;
  • Grow employment and further education outcomes;
  • and Promote equity and address disadvantage.

Over the coming months, the Government will undertake detailed design work and targeted engagement with key stakeholders to refine the model.

You can find more information and download copies of the Review and the Government's Response on the Department of Education and Training website.

Any questions regarding the Review or the Response can be sent via the enquiry form on the DET website.
