Stephanie Dalton

Indigenous course launches Stephanie’s great career

A course called Mumgu-dhal tyama-tiyt (Message Stick of Knowledge) gave young Koorie Mum, Stephanie Dalton, the start she needed for a great career in childcare.

The course helps Indigenous learners develop skills they need to do further study, such as producing documents on a computer and developing study skills.

Stephanie did Mumgu-dhal at the Koorie Unit at GippsTAFE in Morwell, but it is offered by other TAFEs and registered training organisations across Victoria.

The course gave her the skills she needed and she has since completed a Certificate III in Children’s Services and then a Diploma in Children’s Services.

Stephanie now works at Gunai Lidi, Day Care Centre in Morwell, which provides childcare and holiday programs geared specifically for Indigenous children. She loves it!

“My studies have given me a career pathway that will benefit the children and families in my community,” Stephanie says. “I can help show my generation, and the next generation in our community, that they can achieve their goals.”
