AUDIO: Hi, my name’s Nick Arthur, and I’m the Executive Director here at Tuff Tonneaus here in Bayswater.

AUDIO: I found out about lean manufacturing from reading an article in a magazine about six or seven years ago…

AUDIO: …and wanted to do it, but didn’t know how to do it. Didn’t want to do it in a school…

AUDIO: …found out that one of the TAFEs was able to deliver it on site.

AUDIO: So that, to me, them working on our problems on site, was what we needed.
AUDIO: And we managed to get some money from the Government, which is fantastic. Haven’t looked back since.

AUDIO: We had in the early stages 15 go through training with the TAFE.

AUDIO: ….which was a good amount of our workforce. But since then we’ve had everyone through the training. The training for Tuff Tonneaus from the Government is fantastic. I hate to think where we would be without the training.

AUDIO: We’ve doubled profits, we’ve reduced the space required…
AUDIO: …to manufacture products. We’ve been able to add extra people…

AUDIO: …to our staff. It’s been significant.
AUDIO: I think the staff have benefited a lot from the training. I think they’ve really enjoyed the training. They like coming to work in a place where they are getting upskilled and it’s actually given a lot of our guys more money in their wages. They’ve moved up the process…

AUDIO:…and I think you’d find most staff are pretty happy about it.

AUDIO: The advice I’d give to other businesses, I can only speak from lean manufacturing…
AUDIO: …but get on it. It’s going to make a massive difference to your business.
