An apprenticeship is a Contract of Training between an employer and an employee in which the apprentice learns the occupation under a Training Plan. The Training Plan combines practical on-the job experience with structured training provided by a Registered Training Organisation (RTO).
You are in the driver’s seat with an apprenticeship. You agree to the Training Plan with the Registered Training Organisation and you confirm when your apprentice demonstrates they are competent in the areas described in the Training Plan.
A traineeship is similar to an apprenticeship but there is a different level of contractual commitment in a traineeship.
For example, with an apprenticeship, if you sell your business, the new owner takes on responsibility for the apprentice.
With a traineeship, if you sell your business, the contract between you and the trainee ends.
