Adult Learning Taken Back to the Community
Judy first contacted The Avenue Neighbourhood House in 2000 looking for help with reading and writing skills – a big step for someone whose previous experiences of education had been of failure and negativity.
In the time since, she has achieved an Introductory Certificate in Reading and Writing and at North Ringwood Community House the Certificate IV in Disability Work. Judy's tutors have commented not only on her commitment to her studies but her vibrant personality and the enthusiasm, warmth and generosity she shows in her dealings with staff and students.
During her studies Judy completed a work placement at a community organisation which provides a range of opportunities for people with disabilities in the eastern suburbs. She so impressed them that she is now a part time employee there, putting her learning into practice in a way that makes her very proud.
One of Judy's tutors said "It has been a pleasure and a privilege to have been a part of Judy's success and to have been in the company of such an excellent person with amazing qualities. The clients entrusted to Judy's care will be well cared for, well advocated for and well accepted for their individualities and abilities."
