Access and Equity

The Access and Equity Unit within Higher Education and Skills contributes to Department of Education and Early Childhood Development’s strategic outcomes by supporting initiatives to improve access, participation and outcomes in vocational education and training (VET) for hard to reach learners including people from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds, people with disabilities, and Indigenous. Our focus includes:
  • supporting effective transitions for equity groups, including youth
  • supporting the capacity of the training market to respond to hard to reach learners
  • facilitating projects to develop innovative service models and improve training access, participation and outcomes for hard to reach learners
  • coordinating an Access and Equity Grants Program to support innovative service models
  • providing information and tools to equip the training market to provide access to training for hard to reach learners
  • coordinating the delivery of the Wurruker Strategy and the Koori State Training Plan to build the capability of the training market to increase participation of Koorie learners
