Rachelle turning her life around

Rosewall Neighbourhood Centre

Transcript for Rachelle turning her life around video (DOC, 27.5 KB)

Rachelle’s attitude towards learning inspires both her children and those in her community.  Her motto in life is ‘think, feel and do’.

By the time Rachelle got to Year 10, she had attended seven different schools, across different states. She didn’t complete Year 10 at school, leaving to work in a clothing factory. At 17 she fell pregnant and soon after became a single parent.  Many years later, and making the biggest change in her life, Rachelle went to Rosewall Neighbourhood Centre and re-started her learning journey. At the time, Rosewall was running a pilot program called ‘Making tracks: My tracks – Our tracks’.  In Rachelle’s own words: ‘this course changed my life in many ways. It showed me I had a lot to offer even though I thought I didn’t.  Now I have the confidence to know I can achieve my goals and dreams while making many good friends on the way.’ Rachelle successfully completed the pilot program and is now an ambassador for it. She has since undertaken further studies and has completed her Certificate III in Aged Care.

Rachelle now has three children and is working not only to set an example for them on the importance of engaging in learning, but also on actively pursuing the opportunities learning presents.
