Determination and motivation bring results

Dwana Farrall, Continuing Education Bendigo (2010 Learn Local Award winner)

What makes Dwana stand out as a learner is not only her determination to control her life direction but her willingness to support and motivate others in her community.

Dwana Farrall is a 20 year old Indigenous woman with a hearing impairment and mild intellectual disability. She arrived in Bendigo in 2008 from the Northern Territory and enrolled with Continuing Education Bendigo (CEB).

Even though Dwana was extremely shy when she arrived, her positive spirit and massive amounts of determination to be independent assured success in her studies.

One of her many contributions was creating a class magazine that made her classmates feel valued and able to look back at their time at CEB with fondness.
Her hard work and motivation saw her complete her Certificate I in Transition Education. She is now studying to complete her VCAL at the local TAFE.

Dwana’s social circle was very limited when she arrived in Bendigo but since studying her motivation and inspiration has gained her many friends and has ensured that she’ll be remembered by everyone she met there.

In recognition of her determination and learning achievements, Dwana was awarded a special commendation prize in CEB’s annual presentation ceremony. Dwana subsequently won the 2010 Learn Local Award for Outstanding Koorie Achievement.
