This information applies to students undertaking training courses. For information on university Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) process and fees, go to the Going to Uni website.
RPL is granted after a formal assessment by teachers or assessors.
RPL assessment is optional. It is only undertaken when a student applies for it. Students normally receive advice before applying, and before going ahead, they must be given information about what it is likely to cost.
The fee for an RPL assessment is not set by the government but is determined by individual providers. It is not subject to concessions.
There is no fixed minimum or maximum fee for an RPL assessment, but the fee is not allowed to exceed the cost of providing the assessment service.
RPL may be government funded or charged on a fee for service basis. The fees for RPL may vary because the assessments are different for each applicant and some take much more time than others. Contact your provider for more information.
If your course is eligible for VET FEE-HELP (Diplomas and Advanced Diplomas), the fees for RPL can be covered by the loan as well as tuition fees. This means that whether you are gaining recognition through undertaking the course or through an assessment process, either way you may be able to access assistance through a loan.
