Entry Requirements

Entry requirements for courses vary depending on the course you choose.

Many courses require satisfactory completion of VCE (Year 12 of secondary school). Other courses may accept school leavers who have successfully completed Year 10 or Year 11 and mature-age students. Some may require that you are employed or have previous work experience in a relevant area. Others may have educational requirements such as a particular subject or subjects.

Some courses do not have any specific educational conditions. To find out about the entry requirements for a specific course:

  • search the TAFE Courses Directory: information about entry requirements is included in the course descriptions
  • contact the relevant institution directly – you can find contact details on the institution's website.

Details of entry requirements for university courses are available in course handbooks, on university websites or from the Victorian Tertiary Admissions Centre (VTAC) website.

Eligibility for government funded training places

To be eligible for a government funded training place at a training provider, with the Victorian Government covering most of the cost of your course, you need to meet certain requirements. For information about eligibility visit the Get funding page.
