Fee Waivers and Exemptions
This information applies to students undertaking training courses. For information on university course fees, visit the Going to Uni website.
Fee Waiver for Childcare Qualifications
The TAFE Fee Waiver for Childcare Qualifications is a Commonwealth Government-funded initiative. Students undertaking government-subsidised training in certain Diploma or Advanced Diploma qualifications at a Victorian TAFE institute are not required to pay tuition fees. The fee waiver applies only to students undertaking:
- CHC50908 – Diploma of Children’s Services (Early Childhood Education and Care)
- CHC60208 – Advanced Diploma of Children’s Services
- CHC50302 – Diploma of Children’s Services
- CHC60202 – Advanced Diploma of Children’s Services
Job Seeker Fee Waiver
Job seekers undertaking government-subsidised training at Certificate I-IV level will not be required to pay tuition fees. For the purpose of accessing the fee waiver, a Job Seeker is defined as a person who is:
- registered with an Employment Services Provider; and/or
- a participant in the Commonwealth Government’s Community Development Employment Program and/or Access Program
Special Funding Arrangements
It may be a condition of special government funding that a student be exempt from any fee payment. For example, prisoners from the Judy Lazarus Transition Centre and young people required to undertake a course of study pursuant to a community based order must not be charged a tuition fee.
From 1 July 2012, ‘zero-fee’ training places will also be available to young people in out-of-home care, under custody or guardianship orders, or those aged 21 and under who have recently transitioned from State-based care.
