Victorian VET in Schools Excellence
Geelong North VE&T Cluster
The Geelong North VE&T Cluster won the 2008 Victorian VET in Schools Excellence Award.
The Geelong North VE&T Cluster includes students from 12 secondary colleges in Geelong’s northern suburbs (six government colleges and six independent colleges), as well as a further three from the Geelong area. The Cluster currently has 500 students enrolled in 14 VET certificate courses which are delivered from Corio Bay Senior College.
The commitment to constant development and expansion has lead to an innovative and effective delivery of VET courses to students. The Cluster encourages acceleration in VET, allowing Year 10 students to begin their VET studies and complete them in Year 11.
The Cluster allows colleges to broaden their curriculum, minimises administration, coordinates transport arrangements for students and minimises costs to students.
The recognition of the value of vocational education and training and the unique collaboration of the Cluster was a motivation to apply.
“One of the key motivators was the positive exposure it would provide our VET Cluster and our school,” said former Principal of Corio Bay Senior College, Arda Duck.
“Just the experience of writing the application was a good exercise to reflect on our business. The Victorian Training Awards ceremony and winning the Award was a real highlight.”
The Geelong North VE&T Cluster went on to represent Victoria as one of only three finalists in the 2008 Australian Training Awards.
