Victorian Small Training Provider of the Year

The Caterpillar Institute (Vic-Tas) Pty Ltd

CaterpillarTullamarine based Caterpillar Institute (Vic-Tas) won the 2008 Victorian Small Training Provider of the Year Award.

The Caterpillar Institute was established as an innovative joint venture between Caterpillar and its local distributor William Adams. The Institute is playing a key role in addressing the current skills shortage of heavy automotive service technicians and skilled earthmoving equipment operators, positions that are vital for a range of key industries, ranging from mining and construction, to forestry and agriculture.

Commencing operations in 2003, The Caterpillar Institute (Vic-Tas) delivered training to 26 Heavy Vehicle apprentices and in 2008 raised that to trained approximately 170 Heavy Vehicle apprentices here in Victoria and a further 90 in Queensland.

The Victorian Training Awards win was a great validation for the Caterpillar Institute’s business and staff.

“We had worked really hard to establish the Institute and the Awards presented an opportunity to validate what we were doing,” said Caterpillar Institute’s General Manager, Raylene West.

“The Awards are a great way of looking at what you are doing as a training provider. We found it helpful to include our team in the process to get their opinions and recognise that they are what make you successful.”

“The highlight was definitely seeing the look of pride on the faces of our team at the Awards dinner.”
