Victorian Large Training Provider of the Year

Wodonga Institute of TAFE

Wodonga-TAFEWodonga TAFE won the 2008 Victorian Large Training Provider of the Year Award and went on to be recognised as the best in Australia, winning the 2008 Australian Large Training Provider of the Year Award.

Winning a Victorian Training Award was always part of the plan for Wodonga TAFE. Felicity Williams, Manager of Market Research, Strategy and Services at Wodonga TAFE worked on the application for the Awards.

“Applying for the Awards was an objective of our Corporate Plan,” said Felicity.

“It is important that our staff and stakeholders take stock of what we have achieved in working towards our Strategic Plan, which is at its mid-point. The process of submissions and presentations has been an important record of exactly what we have achieved to date.”

Wodonga TAFE has experienced extraordinary growth since adopting its learner-centred Strategic Plan in 2005. The Institute has responded to the needs of its individual learners and the business community with workforce development solutions in an environment of labour and skills shortages, severe drought and social disadvantage.

Wodonga TAFE has focused on developing an innovative individual learner management approach that increases work-based and flexible modes of delivery to suit learner and employers’ needs, particularly in rural and remote contexts in Victoria and throughout Australia.

Its programs ensure access to learning through enduring partnerships with enterprises and community organisations, which are so vital to providing training and skills development programs in rural and remote contexts.

Wodonga TAFE went on to represent the State at the national 2008 Australian Training Awards and won their category.

“For organisations wanting to apply for the Victorian Training Awards, just make sure you have a compelling story. Keep it real,” said Felicity Williams.
