Australian Training Awards

The Australian Training Awards are the peak, national awards for vocational education and training, recognising innovation and excellence in the training sector. The awards are the culmination of the state and territory awards, with winners from each state and territory competing in the national finals.

The 2009 Australian Training Awards will be held at Exhibition Park in Canberra on Thursday 19 November.

2008 Victorian winners

Congratulations to our winners!

Victoria had four winners at the 2008 Australian Training Awards. The Awards were held on Thursday 20 November at the Darwin Convention Centre and were attended by around 700 guests.

Large Training Provider of the Year

Wodonga Institute of TAFE

Wodonga TAFE is one of Victoria’s fastest growing TAFE providers. Wodonga offers a range of specialist training programs and has built a strong reputation for targeted workforce development and assisting regional employers to cope with years of severe drought.

Australian Apprentice (Trainee) of the Year

Matter Machar

Certificate IV Youth Services and Protective Care

Training Provider: Education, Training and Employment Australia

Matter Machar is passionate about working in his chosen field, commencing studies for a Certificate IV in Youth Services and Protective Care with Education Training and Employment Australia.

He then undertook a traineeship through LINK Employment and Training and was placed at the City of Greater Dandenong Youth Services, running a basketball program for young people from diverse multicultural backgrounds. 

Stella Axarlis Australian School-based Apprentice of the Year

Melinda Stephens

Certificate III Clothing Production

Training Provider: RMIT University (TAFE Division)

School: Mansfield Secondary College

Melinda Stephens pursued her passion for fashion by undertaking a school-based apprenticeship with Mansfield designer Jenni Duncombe. Melinda completed a Certificate III in Clothing Production through RMIT University (TAFE Division).

Innovative Business Award (Sponsored by the Australian Flexible Learning Framework)

Swinburne University of Technology

Swinburne University of Technology has a strong National and International reputation for its commitment to research and as a provider of career orientated education and won this award for its work integrating the use of information technology and e-learning across the organisation.
