Nova's Got Skills Competition Winner!
In early 2010 Skills Victoria ran a promotion with Nova FM called ‘Nova’s Got Skills’ to attract more young people into TAFE and training courses in order to boost the future skilled workforce in Victoria. The Nova website featured videos of current Nova staff that have completed TAFE courses. These videos were hosted by Dylan Lewis and Nova staff highlighted the importance of their qualification and how it was relevant to getting their job at Nova and prepared them for the real world of employment. As part of this campaign, listeners were also given the opportunity to win a ‘money can’t buy’ work experience day at Nova. After receiving hundreds of entries, our winner, Sam Fallaw (pictured), was chosen to work with the Nova crew in the office and at a live outside broadcast on various aspects of the radio business. Sam is currently studying an Advanced Diploma in Business and Public Relations at the Gordon Institute of TAFE in Geelong and believes that the skills she has learnt as part of her qualification are ‘vital for radio’. Now that she has finished her work experience, Sam admits, “It is a bittersweet situation for me because I have had a taste of what I really want to do in life. I have to keep striving to make my dream become a reality!”
