State Government of Victoria

Directions & Priorities

The Minister for Skills and Workforce Participation is responsible for the vocational education and training (VET) system in Victoria. The directions and priorities of Skills Victoria are determined by the Minister on behalf of the Victorian Government through legislation, ministerial statements and other policies and directions.

The Victorian Skills Commission (VSC) is the State training agency in Victoria and provides advice to the Minister and the government on post-compulsory education and training, including VET. The VSC's strategic plan is agreed with the Minister and identifies strategies to optimise the contribution of the skills development system to the State's workforce development. See the VSC's strategic plan on the 'VSC' website for more information.

The VSC has delegated many of its function and powers to Skills Victoria, within the Department of Innovation, Industry and Regional Development (DIIRD).
