Our Structure
Skills Victoria is a division of the Department of Innovation, Industry and Regional Development (DIIRD). Skills Victoria comprises the following groups as summarised below:
Skills Policy Development and Coordination
- provides leadership, strategic policy advice and analysis of Victoria's skills requirements as well as governance, legislative and regulatory policy for vocational education and training (VET) and higher education
- is responsible for informing the management and operation of the VET system by undertaking system-wide performance reporting and labour market analysis
- includes the functions of the Victorian Skills Commission (VSC) Secretariat and manages resources and facilities, including the provision of advice on financial allocation and capital programs
Skills Funding and Innovation
- purchases government funded training from TAFE institutions and private registered training organisations and builds the capability and competitiveness of the VET system
- includes the functions of public and private skills funding, access and equity and skills sector innovation
Training Operations
- delivers and monitors training through the apprenticeship and traineeship system
- is responsible for the management of apprenticeship policy, apprenticeship field officers and quality review
- includes the functions of the Flexible Learning Advisory Group (FLAG) Secretariat, and manages training packages, eLearning, workforce development, industry relations and support for the strategic communications needs of Skills Victoria
State Services Authority Review
The Minister for Skills and Workforce Participation, the Hon Jacinta Allan MP, commissioned the State Services Authority, (SSA) under section 50 of the Public Administration Act 2004 to conduct a review of the organisational arrangements of Skills Victoria to implement the Government’s new skills reform package. The SSA is to provide a final report to the Minister by 30 September 2009.
