About Skills Victoria
Skills Victoria is an office of the Department of Education and Early Childhood Development (DEECD). Our Deputy Secretary reports to the Secretary of DEECD, and primarily supports the Minister for Higher Education and Skills.
Our role is to support and facilitate access to training and tertiary education opportunities so that Victorians can acquire higher skills that are utilised by, and contribute to the success of, Victorian businesses.
We do this by:
- identifying Victoria’s skill and knowledge requirements;
- informing individuals and businesses of education and training opportunities;
- shaping a responsive, connected and accessible education and training market; and
- encouraging individuals and business to get the greatest benefit from education and training.
The key outcomes we are seeking to achieve are that:
- the working age population has:
-
- gaps in foundation skills levels reduced to enable effective educational, labour market and social participation; and
- the depth and breadth of skills and capabilities required for the 21st century labour market;
- the supply of skills provided by the national training system responds to meet changing labour market demand; and
- skills are used effectively to increase labour market efficiency, productivity, innovation, and ensure increased utilisation of human capital.
